Timaya

Timaya is a Nigerian singer and songwriter whose love for music began at a very tender age and he would often break house rules in secondary school to attend late night music events. Timaya gained admission to study Banking and Finance at the University of Port Harcourt and dropped out after his first semester due to poor performance. Something he claimed he would rather call a lack of interest.

He joined Eedris Abdulkareem's hiphop group as a backup vocalist and three years after, left to focus on pursuing his solo music career. That act saw him literally hawking his music from one studio to the other until years later when he met producer K-Solo who produced his first major hit record, Dem Mama after hearing him perform the a cappella version

Dem Mama” was an account of the 1999 destruction of Odi, a river side community in Niger Delta by soldiers. By releasing the song, Timaya bravely tackled the issue years later and won instant street credibility for my boldness.

He continued to work with K-Solo before leaving to start his own record label. He then founded the South South hip hop group, Dem Mama Records. The multiple award-winning musician has countless tracks and six commercially successful albums to his name. He has received several nominations and won, at least, six awards including four Headies.

In 2011, Timaya was appointed a Peace Ambassador by the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace (IIFWP). Dr. Hak Ja Haan Moon, co-founder of the IIFWP described him as "one of those individuals whose lives exemplify the ideal of living for the sake of others...”

On the 20th of May, 2017, Timaya will be speaking at the Live Your Dreams Africa Conference 5.0 in one of the panel sessions. He will also be answering some of your nagging questions. Will you be there to ask them? Register here. Get ready for The Evolution!
