Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau (born 30 June 1980), popularly known by her stage name Kaffy, is a Nigerian dancer, choreographer, dance instructor and fitness coach. She is also the founder and owner of Imagneto Dance Company. She is best known for breaking the Guinness World Record for “Longest Dance Party” at the Nokia Silverbird Danceathon in 2006

Kaffy’s dancing career took off after she went to an event to perform onstage by someone who spotted her when she used to go to the National Stadium during weekends for dance rehearsals and workouts.

In 2006, Kaffy led her dance group to break the Guinness Book of Record for “Longest Dance Party” after they danced for 55hours and 40minutes. She is currently a dance instructor who has developed innovative visualisation-based methods for teaching dance and dance fitness in an accelerated-learning format.

In 2017, she created ‘The Dance Workshop ‘ a dance convention aimed at training and mentoring professional dancers as well as promoting cultural exchange within the Nigerian dance industry. The 2017 Edition featured America’s leading choreographer, AY Hollywood.

Enitimi Alfred Odom (born 15 August 1980), better known by his stage name Timaya, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He is the founder of South South hip hop group Dem Mama Soldiers. His solo career began in 2005 with the release of “Dem Mama”, which also appeared on his debut album, True Story released the following year. His second album Gift and Grace was released in 2008.

Timaya gained further visibility and international prominence through his third studio album De Rebirth—released in partnership with Black Body Entertainment—and its lead single “Plantain Boy”. Both were commercially successful. He collaborated with Dem Mama Soldiers on the album LLNP (Long Life N Prosperity). In 2012, Timaya released Upgrade, which spawned hits “Bum Bum”, “Sexy Ladies”, and “Malonogede”. To date, his work has earned him four Headies Awards, and one Nigeria Music Award

The Royal Wedding Planner


Switching career paths for some is a daunting task which has seen a lot of women bury their dreams in a bid to move along with life. However, the story of Funke Bucknor shows what can be easily done when you put your mind to it.

Funke  Bucknor-Obruthe studied Law at the University of Lagos and was called to bar after attending the Nigerian Law School in Abuja in 2000.

Funke had a brief stint with her law profession before moving to Tie Communications, an advertising agency where she worked for a short time before deciding to engage her event planning dream full time starting Zapphaire Events in 2003

With her signature for excellence, over the years she has planned and organized several high-profile events within and outside Nigeria which have gotten her recognition including a feature in CNN’s Inside Africa for planning a Nigerian royal wedding.

She has won numerous awards which include the Future Awards for Entrepreneur of the Year in 2006, the Wedding Planner Magazine Award for Wedding Planner of the Year in 2007, Go2girl Life Achievement Awards in 2011, Nigerian Events Awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Events Industry in 2012, and many more.

On May 19, Funke will be telling us how she has been able to build a successful business from scratch.

Nosa Afolabi, better known by his comic name Lasisi Elenu is a Health Education graduate who hails from Kwara state, Nigeria.

Before his break as a comic figure, he had made efforts at other career choices including music, where he had the stage name – Nature.

Nosa started off his comic career on WhatsApp where he received mixed responses from people however he kept to his guns and continued to live out his passion.

Today, he is one of the most watched comedy skit curators on Instagram with an average of 200,000 views per skit.

He has also featured in a couple of Nollywood movies. Nosa’s dedication to living his dream has brought him both fame and fortune and he will be sharing lessons from his journey with us at The Awakening on May 19.

direction and initiatives.

His Movie Came Alive

 

Olubankole Wellington started singing in the choir at the age of 5

In 2002, while studying in New York on a scholarship, he started his music label, EME. Upon relocating to Nigeria in 2009, he re-established his label in Lagos. Through this platform, he signed young and talented artists like Niyola, Shaydee, Skales and Wizkid.

In 2005, he broke into the limelight with his debut album, ‘Back in the Building’. This well received album earned him a Brand Ambassador contract with Samsung Nigeria. Ciroc soon following suit.

A day after 2013’s Valentine, he launched his new album, R&BW with a concert tagged, ‘The Grand Love Concert’, at the Civic Centre, Lagos.

He made a gallant entry into the movie scene in 2016, by starring as the groom in The Wedding Party one of the highest grossing movies in Nollywood’s history. In 2017, the movie turned to reality as he married his co-star, Adesua Etomi in a private but publicly celebrated wedding.

Banky W has five albums and eight singles under his belt and has won numerous awards. These include, John Lennon Song Writing Award 2006 R&B Category for My Regret, Best R&B Artiste in Nigerian Entertainment Awards 2006, Best Male R&B Artiste by Urban Independent Music Awards, USA and several more.

Ireti Doyle graduated from the University of Jos with a degree in Theatre Arts.  In a career that has spanned two decades in the Nigerian entertainment industry, her credits cut across stage, television, film and print. In one sentence, she is an accomplished writer, actor, producer and presenter.

She has produced and presented her own fashion and lifestyle show titled Oge with Iretiola for ten years and at different times, anchored several A-list television shows like Morning Ride, Today On STV and Nimasa This Week on Channels TV. She is an avid social commentator who, at different times, penned the popular columns: Shooting Breeze in City People, In The Chat Room in the Gliteratti pull-out of This Day Newspaper and Tiola’s Take in the Saturday Vanguard.

A multiple award-winning actor, she has received an enviable number of nominations and awards in Nigeria, Africa and internationally. Most recently she was nominated at the 2016 Africa Movie Academy Awards in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category for her portrayal of Dr. Elizabeth in Ebony Life Films’ 2015 blockbuster, Fifty.

She is undoubtedly a household name with an acting resume that includes the critical darling, The Arbitration and The Wedding Party, the highest grossing Nigerian film in Nigerian cinema history. Both films were screened at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival as part of the city-to-city spotlight. She also currently stars as the enigmatic Sheila Ade-Williams in the MNET television series, Tinsel.

On the stage, her most recent credits include The Vagina Monologues, Olorounbi The Musical, Hear Word and The Wives.

Described as an ‘actor’s actor’ by her peers, Ireti would be on stage sharing how she started her journey to giving picture-perfect performances on May 19.
